Dangers of a Beach Wedding

As romantic and exotic as beach weddings sound, there are nonetheless some real dangers associated with gathering on the shorelines of any body of water.
While you will probably not drown on the shore of a beach (unless a tsunami hits), some undertows are very strong and can grab the bottom of your wedding gown and pull you into the water. It sounds very funny and unrealistic to think that you might be pulled into the water. But this author has been on the beach during a ceremony in which the force of the wind and the wave combined grabbed the bride’s dress and pulled her right into the Caribbean Sea. And with the length and weight of her gown, she was not able to pull herself up to her feet requiring two men to lift her out of the sand.

Sandstorms are another problem faced by couples marrying on the beach. A heavy wind can come up quickly whisking the sand all over the place. And if you have ever been in a sandstorm, you know it is incredibly painful. Sand hits your face, arms and legs like little razors. To make matters worse, you are liable to get hit in the eyes with the sand. But the biggest challenge is walking with your eyes closed.

Insect bites can cause serious issues for those who suffer from allergies. Coupled with the fact, that the individuals might not carry antihistamines or some type of medicine to counteract the effects of the bite can make insects highly dangerous. And then depending on the country, it is possible that the medical services are either very far away or inadequately prepared to handle the emergency.

Hurricanes, tsunamis and any gale force storms are going to cause a dangerous and frightening situation for the bridal couple and their guests. When booking a wedding on the beach, it is possible to know the general season for extreme weather but in reality, if something is brewing, it is often too late to make alternate arrangements.

Depending on the country, some resorts find it necessary to build walls on the beach and maintain security personnel to circumvent the crime hurled upon tourists. It is really important to watch news reports, consult your own government for travel advisories and ask around on travel forums about problems that others have experienced. Do not tempt fate in this regard as there may be no one capable of protecting you and your loved ones.

Beach weddings that involve boats are possible potential tragedies waiting to happen. Countries where safety standards are inferior, corruption is great, over-boarding the vessel with too many people is rampant and life jackets are non-existent, can only cause heartache. Do your research and while in the destination, use your common sense. If it is an unsafe practice in your own country, it is therefore unsafe and should be avoided. Do not let your heart rule.

Water is a danger to children of all ages. Children must be properly supervised and accounted for at all times. Unfortunately, children are drawn to water and the force is great enough to take down a child immediately drowning the child in very shallow water.

Without doubt, most beach weddings are performed without any major dangers. Statistically, it may be small the number of times a tragedy happens but that does not mean that the bride and groom should ignore potential dangers.
